Assistant/Associate Professor in Art Education

Department of Art Education and Community Arts Practices
Position Begins Academic Year 2018-19

Full-time tenure-track; renewable annually prior to tenure, dependent on appropriate scholarship,
teaching, and service to the university.

Qualifications :
PhD or EdD, in Art Education at time of hire (ABD considered) and minimum of three years successful
K-12 teaching experience required; three years college teaching and/or program coordination experience
preferred. Knowledge of urban education and social justice art education; a commitment to examine
issues/intersections of race, class, gender, ethnicity, and disabilities through scholarship, pedagogy and/or
studio practice. Cross-pollination with community arts welcome.

Responsibilities :
Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in art education including:
introductory/intermediate/advanced level art education courses for art education (BFA/BS)
undergraduates and MED graduates. Supervise of interns and student teachers in the fieldwork;
Coordinate undergraduate art education program and participate in curriculum committee work. Maintain
rigorous scholarly research and/or studio practice and with service at school, university and national

Candidate will :
Advance research in the field of art education through active scholarship, creative work, and leadership;
work cross-disciplinarily; be socially engaged with a solid understanding of urban education and how art
education fits in that discourse with a related research agenda; have K-12 teaching experience with a deep
commitment to students, families, educators, and urban communities.
