The Department of Teaching & Learning in the Darden College of Education & Professional Studies at Old Dominion University (ODU) invites applications for a full-time, Lecturer of Elementary Education with expertise in Literacy, Instructional Methods, and/or Classroom Management beginning July 25, 2024. The institution seeks candidates with expertise in teaching, learning, and teacher education with an interest in practical application. Responsibilities
  • Teach 12 hours per semester of elementary education courses at the undergraduate level;
  • Assist with student recruitment and retention;
  • Contribute to the refinement of the undergraduate elementary education program;
  • Initiate and sustain university-school partnerships with local pre-K-6 schools;
  • Mentor/advise students;
  • Provide supervision for students in clinical experiences;
  • Engage in departmental and programmatic service and leadership; and
  • Assist with departmental and program assessment, including continued national accreditation for CAEP.

Minimum Qualifications - knowledge, skills, and abilities

Successful candidates must have:
  • Expertise in elementary education literacy, instructional methods, and classroom management;
  • A minimum of three years of teaching experience in pre-K-6 schools;
  • Evidence of quality higher education or equivalent teaching in teacher education.

Minimum Qualifications - Education or training

Candidates are required to have a master’s degree or higher in Elementary Education or related field with at least 18 credit hours of graduate coursework in Curriculum & Instruction by June 2024.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with urban high poverty and Title One schools;
  • Experience with creation and implementation of online learning;
  • Experience with marketing and student recruitment;
  • Experience with student teacher/practica supervision;
  • Experience with school-university partnerships;
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and the ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and school-based personnel;
  • Experience in teaching blended or online classes as well as face-to-face classes;
  • Commitment to working in an interdisciplinary teaching and learning environment;
  • Experience or knowledge of CAEP or related accrediting bodies; and/or
  • Earned doctorate. For applicants with a doctoral degree, teaching graduate coursework is possible.
