Director, Office of Teacher Certification and Alternate Route Programs

The Director for the Office of Teacher Certification and Alternate Route Programs (Director 4) provides support and oversight for the professional nomination and certification process; provides related support services to assist students as they prepare for a career in teacher education, educational services or educational leadership; and provides coordination of alternate route programs. Reporting to the Dean of the College of Education, the Director manages the daily processes related to all certification routes with NJDOE. The Director ensures that all candidates, including those at Kean Ocean and all developing sites, meet the requirements for New Jersey State licensure, possess the appropriate clinical experiences and attain the proper content knowledge to teach or work in a prescribed certification area.  The Director recommends and implements policies and procedures and ensures compliance with university policies and state and federal guidelines and regulations. This position requires travel and a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and a minimum of two years of related experience in an institution of higher education is required, including working knowledge about the processes and requirements, including procedural and financial, for recommending candidates for certification to the State of New Jersey. Master’s degree in a related field; teaching experience in a K-12 public school setting and/or higher education institution; and Teacher Certification in the State of NJ is preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.
