Position overview Salary range: Salary is commensurate with experience. Percent time: 17% - 100% Anticipated start: Applications will be accepted and reviewed for department needs through February 17, 2023. Typically, applications are considered in March and April for fall course needs, in July through September for spring course needs, and September and October for summer course needs; however, screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. The pool will close February 17, 2023; applicants wishing to remain in the pool after that time will need to submit a new application. The Disability Studies program at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach Disability Studies courses should an opening arise. The Disability Studies minor centers the knowledge and experience of disabled people, studying cultural and artistic productions, public laws and policies, professional practices, and everyday life with an emphasis on disability as a social situation and a political process. Our approach is interdisciplinary, aiming to integrate the study of disability into academic fields across the campus; it is intersectional; and it makes and draws on long-standing connections between scholarship and activism, locally and globally.
Teaching a Disability Studies course includes holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, and preparing course materials.
Due to COVID 19, UC Berkeley began the academic year with fully remote instruction. Depending on public health conditions, the need for remote education and virtual classrooms may continue. Instructors must have internet access and be prepared to adjust pedagogical approaches to develop asynchronous instructional materials, foster student-to-student interaction, and reimagine assignments and exams for a remote format.

Additional qualifications (by start date): Completion of advanced degree or an equivalent international degree. Candidates must already be authorized to work in the United States. Preferred qualifications Preferred Qualifications: A Ph.D. or equivalent international degree, and experience working with a diverse student population is preferred. College-level teaching experience in disability studies is preferred. Knowledge of accessible technologies and universal design in instruction is preferred.
