TENURE TRACK APPOINTMENT IN READING DEVELOPMENT, INSTRUCTION, AND INTERVENTION FOR DIVERSE LEARNERS

Memorial University’s Faculty of Education invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in Reading Development, Instruction, and Intervention for Diverse Learners. This appointment will begin September 1, 2021 or shortly thereafter (subject to budgetary approval).

The Faculty of Education is a dynamic and growing Faculty that supports and encourages vigorous intellectual growth, excellence and innovation in teaching and research, and engagement in academic and professional communities. Our faculty is comprised of approximately 600 undergraduate students, 900 graduate students, and 43 full-time faculty, offers a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate programs including a doctoral program.

The preferred candidate will have a completed doctoral degree related to the foundational aspects of reading development and instruction for diverse learners including learners with exceptionalities, as well as experience working with students in K-12 settings, including students who are English language learners. Further, experience in the administration and interpretation of reading assessments-including standardized assessments-for informing responsive teaching, learning, and intervention for diverse learners is desired. The preferred candidate shall also have a record of scholarship related to the foundations of reading development and reading instruction.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses face-to-face, in a blended format, and/or online (undergraduate and graduate levels;) with a particular emphasis on reading development and instruction for diverse learners, including learners with exceptionalities, supervise graduate level projects and theses/dissertations; participate in committee assignments and professional development activities; provide leadership and service to schools, the university, the community, and the profession; and maintain an active research and service agenda.

Appointments are normally made at the rank of Assistant Professor. A completed earned doctorate is required for the appointee to receive the rank of Assistant Professor and to be in a tenure-track position. If a successful candidate has not completed an earned doctorate, they shall be appointed to a regular term, non-renewable three-year appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. If the candidate completes all the requirements for the doctorate during the first 24 months of the term appointment, they shall begin a tenure-track appointment following successful completion of the requirements of the degree.

Applicants are invited to submit a letter of application including a current curriculum vitae, a complete teaching dossier (including such items as a statement of teaching philosophy, a sample course outline/syllabus, teaching evaluations or other evidence of teaching proficiency), a statement of the candidate’s ongoing/proposed research program, two examples of scholarly writing (including a sample of single-authored scholarly writing), and the names of three referees (two of which should be academic references).
