The Department of Education at Valparaiso University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position. Major responsibilities include teaching elementary education literacy courses, teaching other elementary methods and/or foundations course work, supervision of elementary teacher candidates in early fieldwork and student teaching, continued scholarly activity, ongoing professional development, and service to the Department and University. The successful candidate will also be provided with both formal and informal mentoring to guide the individual toward tenure and promotion. The start date is approximately August 15, 2019.
A Ph.D. or Ed.D. with a focus in elementary literacy is preferred. ABD candidates with a set degree completion date will also be considered. Candidates should demonstrate strong collaboration, research, and communication skills. A current elementary (K-6) teaching license and three years of elementary teaching experience are also preferred. Candidates must also be willing to travel within Northwest Indiana to complete observations of elementary teacher candidates.
Located an hour from downtown Chicago in northwest Indiana, Valparaiso University is a comprehensive university with about 3,800 students. Candidates should be interested in working at a university engaged in issues in Christian higher education in the Lutheran tradition.
