Barbara's research interests include graphic novels, struggling readers and technology integration. She presents at regional, national, and international conferences and has published in peer-reviewed journals and yearbooks, co-authored a book chapter, and has edited two monographs. She is a board member of the Association of Literacy Educators and Researchers. She has also published a children’s picture book on life in early Oklahoma. Barbara and her husband David live in Idabel, Oklahoma, and love visits from their four children and five grandchildren.
