Dr. Valdez received his Bachelor of University Studies and Master of Science degrees at the University of New Mexico. His bachelor’s degree emphasized studies in special education, psychology and communicative disorders and he received his master’s degree in speech-language pathology. He holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), and he is licensed by the state of New Mexico Occupational Licensing Board and the New Mexico Public Education Department. He served as a member on the ASHA Committee on Supportive Personnel and on the ASHA Task Force for the Improvement of Services for Minority Populations. He also served on the State of New Mexico Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Occupational Licensure Board. Dr. Valdez has over 25 years of experience as a speech-language pathologist practicing in a variety of settings including public schools, hospitals and clinics, and in private practice. He completed his Ph.D. in Educational Psychology with an emphasis in research methodology/statistics and cognitive science at the University of New Mexico. His interests include applying cognitive theories to educational technology, early language development/disorders, phonological development/disorders, and basic/advanced statistical methods.
