His research interests focus on educational leadership and policy issues across three, related areas of inquiry. First, he studies issues related to school finance and resource allocation, focusing specifically on the ways in which the state school finance context constrains or promotes leadership action within schools and districts. Second, he examines issues related to human resource management, with a particular focus on the ways in which school districts enable principals to make strategic human resource decisions. Finally, he studies issues related to educational leadership preparation and practice, particularly issues related to instructional supervision within content areas and in under-performing or so-called turnaround schools.
