Dr. Bindewald’s primary line of research addresses the role of religion in public education within the context of pluralist, democratic societies. He takes an interdisciplinary approach to scholarship that employs qualitative research methods and philosophical and historical inquiry to analyze educational policy and practice. His teaching interests include qualitative research methods, theoretical foundations of inquiry, religion and public education, teacher preparation, and philosophy and history of education. A former secondary social studies teacher, he is deeply committed to the project of public education and, particularly, to equality of educational opportunity and fair treatment of students and teachers
