My interests are based in critical literacy theory and how the implementation of critical literacy practices in the classroom impact student empowerment and identity, particularly in minority-majority schools. Critical literacy theory impacts student discourse practices, transforms the cycle of oppression, and empowers participants by focusing attention upon understanding the development of sociocultural identity. Attention to student voice is key to the empowerment of students. This idea is leading me toward expanding my work in Photovoice and integrating technological theories into my work.
