The terms “rigor and relevance” summing up my belief of post-secondary studies. I expect my courses to be conducted at an appropriate level and I expect the theories to be supported by real-life experiences. As a result, I approach the courses with the expectations that the students are professional and I only accept professional level work. At the same time, I believe that the large majority of students are professional teachers wanting to take the next step in their career and they should have experiences that prepare them for such. I do not accept unprofessional levels of work; I do try to be reasonable with the assignment expectations knowing that each teacher has just come to class from a full day of teaching and many have preparations to do for the next day before the night is over. I have found that if I treat the students with high expectations and respect, they rarely disappoint me.
